Q:
How do I apply for a handgun license?

All handgun permits are issued
by the Office Of The Chief Of Police.
To be issued a gun permit the
following steps are necessary:
1. Background check
This normally takes 5 working days. To begin this process
you must complete the background check form and return it to the
Records Division.
2. State Application Form
After the background check is completed and approved by the Chief
of Police you must then complete the State Handgun Permit
Application. Upon completion you need to mail this form to the
State Of Indiana for approval. Your handgun permit will be mailed
to you within 4 to 6 weeks by the State.

*A portion of the
local fee is refundable if a license is not issued. The entire
state feel is refundable if no license is issued.
Payments to the State of Indiana
must be in the form of a Postal Money Order or
Certified Check
Gun permits are issued Tuesday - Friday from 10 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
General questions regarding Handgun Permits should be addressed
to the Records Division.
